Life as a Fast Responder

Shannon shares more about her role at Complete Care Agency as a Fast Responder and her experience as the relative of one of our valued clients.

Q: What was your experience seeing CCA as a relative (daughter in law) of a complex care client?

My father-in-law had quite complex care needs and seeing the professional and person centred manner in which the carers looked after him was really comforting. He was quite a character and so required staff who understood his humour.

Q: What made you apply to work with CCA?

I already had experience with complex care and after seeing staff with my father-in-law I decided to apply so that I could make that same difference for someone else’s family. CCA was also able to give me the flexibility to work around my family commitments.

Q: Where did you previously work if not in the care sector?

I’ve worked in care since I was 18 in different areas, elderly nursing, older persons mental health, adults with learning disabilities, hospice care/end of life and community domiciliary but did have a couple of deviations working in a local pet shop and at an animal rescue centre on the Pennines!! But I always come back to care as it is where my passion lies.

Q: What has been a high point at CCA?

There has been lots of highs whilst working at CCA! I completed my NVQ 3 through the company, I’ve made some amazing friends, I’ve been on holiday, experienced live football matches and some crazy gigs but the best high is finishing a shift and going home knowing that I enabled a service user to spend another day in their own home with a few laughs thrown in too.

Q: What has your experience been of the training we provide?

I had the best support whilst completing my NVQ 3, CCA gave me the encouragement I needed at the times when I felt I was never going to get it done, and for that I am so grateful! Also, the in-house training provided by Osburn Training is fab, friendly and informative and I’ve learnt a lot. (The cakes and biscuits are a great touch too!!) I’ve also been given opportunities to participate in some out of house training too.

Q: How is CCA as a team?

CCA as a whole works very well, we all bring something different to the table and our differences really complement each other in providing all-round care to our service users. I feel supported by the other fast responders, and we always help each other out where possible and I have made some great friends in almost all areas of Complete Care Agency as a company.

Q: What is it like being a Fast Responder?

Being a fast responder is hard at times especially with the current pandemic, but I really enjoy my role. I could end up anywhere doing anything and I quite like the variety, no two days are the same! I get to work with a variety of service users, their families and staff and really get to utilise my skills in all aspects of complex care.

We would like to thank Shannon for continuing to be an invaluable team member. We couldn’t do it without Shannon and all of our dedicated staff who are driven to get out of bed each day and really make a difference to others. During COVID-19, Shannon and all of our team have continued to provide a safe and resilient service to the most vulnerable people in the United Kingdom. We can’t thank you enough for what you do.
